The irregularly shaped grooves help prevent compacted snow from remaining trapped in the tread. The central tread blocks and wider shoulder blocks limit tread deformation, allowing the studs to bite straight and effectively into the ice. As the tyre rolls, the studs maintain contact with the road. A reinforced rubber base around each stud hole keeps them firmly in place. The side sipes create fine cuts in the ice, providing additional purchase on both snow and frozen surfaces.
